3 lessons we learned during Future Founders Fest

Unlock helpful tips from startup pros and tech founders to elevate your career within the industry.

Hacking technology might seem daunting, but hacking into the tech industry doesn’t have to be — especially with the right tips and insights. Future Founders Fest, presented by Handshake and our friends at Base10, offered valuable advice from top leaders within the tech sector. Over three dynamic sessions, our speakers shared their expertise on everything from making a standout impression during the application process to launching your own startup.

Some highlights from the event include:

  • B Astrella, Senior Director of Product Management at Handshake, Trent Strong, Director of Engineering at Shopify, and Clark Atlanta University student moderator Ke'Asia Kennedy talked about specific roles you should consider when looking for your first entry-level job in tech, as well as the best ways to stand out on Handshake and job applications.
  • Marcel Weekes, VP of Product Engineering at Figma, and Katie Kelly, CMO of Handshake, provided insights into what it takes to build a successful startup. In a conversation moderated by Ke'Asia, Katie and Marcel covered the importance of mentorship in the startup space, defined the essential roles needed in any "startup roster," and got real about the pros and cons of startup life.
  • In the final session of the day, founders Ben Christensen (Handshake), Rajeev Behera (Every), and Jordan Nemrow (Woflow) joined Howard University alum Jasmine Livingston to share their firsthand experiences making the leap into entrepreneurship and discuss what the future holds for the landscape of tech in the near future.
