More than 500,000 companies hire college students and recent grads on Handshake. No matter what industry you want to work in—from tech to finance to education and more—there are so many potential places for you to find your next job or internship.
So how can you find employers that are a good fit for you and stay updated about them? Here are some tips for finding and following the employers you want to work for on Handshake.
View recommended jobs
Handshake shares personalized job recommendations with you, based on the information in your profile. And as you update your interests (including job type, cities, and roles) and explore jobs in Handshake, your recommendations will update and become even more relevant.
When you view a job page on Handshake, you’ll see the employer’s information and can click through to their profile page. There, you can find out more about what makes a company a great place to work. Employer profile pages are full of useful information including:
Reviews - Learn about internships, company culture, and more from other students who have worked there. Message them directly for advice or answers to your questions.
Interviews - Similar to reviews, get an inside look at the interview process.
Jobs - See all the jobs available for students at your school.
Search for employers
If you want to search for specific employers, click on the Employers page on your dashboard. There you can type in the names of companies that you’d like to learn more about and see their open jobs and internships.
Additionally, you’ll find other employers to check out on your dashboard listed under Recommended based on your activity.

Follow employers you like
Following employers is an easy way to stay in the know about the places where you want to work. When you see an employer that interests you, click the Follow button on their preview card or at the top of their employer page. If you're on the Handshake app, click the star button.
You'll receive email alerts when the employers you follow post new jobs and events on Handshake. Following employers also helps improve your job recommendations. The more you explore and follow employers you'd like to work for, the more relevant your recommendations will become.
“I think the most useful feature is being able to follow employers I like, so I can know when they’re posting new openings. I follow NBCUniversal, and it’s because of a Handshake notification that I knew the applications for fall internships had opened, and I immediately applied. Not long after, I had an interview and an offer for an internship!”
