Opening Doors: Getting that first internship

Fordham graduate, Emma Nelson, shares how Handshake opened doors in her career.

We spoke to real college students about how Handshake helped them open doors in their careers. Read and follow along in this five-part series.

Meet Emma Nelson, a recent Fordham University graduate and a longtime user of Handshake. She got her first internship on Handshake by searching specific industries she was interested in. Handshake enabled her to open doors in her career and connected her with her first internship boss who continues to be a positive voice of support.

"A result of a door being opened for me was actually getting an internship. And once I got that first internship, I actually ended college having had four internships. So having that first door open and getting my foot literally in the door to have my first internship enabled me to know that I could continue on that internship path and eventually land a full-time job once I graduated from college."
