Integrating Academics and Career Curriculum at UAB

The University of Alabama at Birmingham launches a new Canvas course to help students get a foundational career education

The Career Education team at the University of Alabama at Birmingham just launched a new Canvas course to help students get a foundational career education. Comprising six career competency based modules, the course is easy for students to access on their own, or for faculty to integrate into existing coursework. Learn more about the course here.

The team saw 400 assignments completed by students in the first four weeks with virtually no marketing and plan to promote it via their student newsletter moving forward. To engage faculty, they’ll be promoting the course via their Career Influencer Network, a professional and teaching support program launching through their Center for Teaching & Learning.

Brandon Wright, Director of the UAB Career Center shares: “If you’re trying to be successful as a career center, you have to integrate yourself into the academic experience. Especially when you are not in a physical office space, getting into Blackboard or Canvas gets you in front of students.”
